Case study: Experiment –
The long journey of ranking organically for SRLs for RocLogic

A little under 2 years from initial article creation to first SRL (Sales Ready Lead)

This case study is a recap of a small piece of RocLogic’s own marketing machine in action. As usual, you know what they say about data… so take it as a data point and with a grain of salt. There’s so much nuance and context in marketing.

The trigger

I noticed that a relevant search topic was ranking, but poorly for an article that was somewhat aligned, but not entirely.

The Journey

I decided to create an article that was better-aligned with the search intent.

Once the article was published, it was time to start monitoring.

Along the way I decided to tweak a couple things. It appears that these tweaks had a non-negligible positive effect 😁.

The article began getting traction.

The first hand-raiser was technically an SRL for RocLogic, but I turned it away based on the dynamics of RocLogic’s business. Similar with the second SRL.

The third SRL was of interest and I followed up accordingly.

Lessons learned

  • Alignment with the market is critical.

  • Patience (and sometimes stubbornness?) is huge. At one point over a year into the process, I almost gave up on trying. Thankfully I didn’t.

Snapshot of experiment results

  • This article has traction. We’ll see where it heads, but I’m happy with the results to date.

  • Bonus: started showing up in Google’s AI overviews section.

Methods leveraged

  • Inbound marketing

  • Organic search (SEO)

  • Content Marketing
